Bora Gencturk is an Assistant Professor in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the University of Houston. He obtained his BS degree from Bogazici University (Istanbul, Turkey) and MSc and PhD degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Gencturk’s technical interests include use of advanced materials for hazard mitigation and sustainable construction, life-cycle analysis of new and existing structures subjected multiple hazards, development of small-scale structural testing methods and vulnerability assessment of structures. Dr. Gencturk has produced more than 20 research publications, including two book chapters and five research reports.
Dr. Gencturk teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in the area of structural dynamics, earthquake engineering and structural reliability.
Dr. Gencturk is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), American Concrete Institute (ACI), Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) and American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE). He is currently serving as on “Experimental Methods in Earthquake Engineering” subcommittee of the Structural Engineering Institute’s Technical Activities Division. Dr. Gencturk also acted as a reviewer for several journals in structural engineering.

Teaching and research assistant positions are available. Dr. Gencturk welcomes inquires from students interested in pursuing a graduate study in Civil Engineering at the University of Houston. Preference will be given to students who are interested in a PhD degree (having an MS degree is not required).
